Das Jahr (German: “the Year”) is a groundbreaking cycle of 12 pieces characterizing
the 12 months of the year, plus a short postlude. Each piece of the cycle is
accompanied by a verse by Uhland, Goethe, Shiller, Eichendorff, and Tieck, as well as
an illustrative vignette by the composer’s husband, painter Wilhelm Hensel.
