Small-scale farming produces 50% of the world’s food and provides livelihoods to over 1.5 billion people worldwide. The Financial Resilience in Agriculture (FRA) Initiative, powered by a partnership between UNDP’s Insurance and Risk Finance Facility and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, is working to bolster smallholder farmers’ financial resilience and accelerate their adaptation to climate change.

Ritesh Chauhan, CEO of India’s pioneering crop insurance programme, Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY), talks about the country’s major successes in developing and scaling one of the world’s largest crop insurance schemes.
