During WrestleMania 8 in the early '90s, WWE enforced a strict no-blood policy for all wrestlers. Despite this rule, two wrestlers decided that some bloodshed would enhance their matches. Bret Hart, during his match with Roddy Piper, bladed and did such a convincing job that it appeared legitimate, allowing him to avoid fines and punishment. On the other hand, Ric Flair, known for blading, did so during his WWE title match against Macho Man Randy Savage. Flair's actions were so apparent that Vince McMahon fined both men a reported $500,000. According to the late Ling Pao in an interview with Inside the Ropes, Flair faced genuine heat from McMahon for the incident. However, Pao noted that the crowd appreciated the addition of blood in the title match. Flair knew how fans reacted to seeing blood on his blond hair and chose to blade despite the company's policy, resulting in McMahon's anger but the fans' approval.
