The Steelhead Candy Intruder is one nasty swing fly. If you are getting into the world of tying swing flies, this is a solid place to start. This fly is easy to cast and should be tied in several different sizes and color combinations for trout, steelhead, and salmon. Don't be afraid to give this fly some time to marinate at the end of your swing. This part of the casting cycle is referred to as "the dangle". With this pattern, make sure to add some animation to the bottom of the swing by pumping the rod, moving the rod tip side to side, and giving the line some strips. Leaving the fly at the bottom of the swing can entice strikes for a whole variety of reasons, but sometimes a predatory fish whacks it out of frustration over having its personal space invaded for too long... Get your clicker out and start counting some casts, you never know when that tight line grab is going to come!
