"The Black Hole" is a 1979 science fiction movie produced by Walt Disney Productions. The film tells the story of a research ship that discovers a lost ship near a black hole and encounters its commander, who has developed an obsession with merging with the black hole to gain ultimate power and knowledge. The movie features state-of-the-art special effects and an iconic score by John Barry.

The Black Hole movie was Disney's first attempt to move into the production of science fiction movies, the aim was to compete with the Star Wars movie. Disney did not succeed in this, although 33 years later Disney achieved its goal by buying Lucasfilm and the Star Wars franchise
