The Golden Gate Strait Overlook offers a view of its namesake bridge.

The iconic Golden Gate Bridge crosses above the treacherous Golden Gate Strait, the famous entrance to San Francisco Bay.

The Golden Gate Strait is a narrow, mile-wide waterway in California that serves as the entrance connecting the Pacific Ocean to the San Francisco Bay, separating the San Francisco Peninsula from the Marin Headlands, and spanned by the iconic Golden Gate Bridge. Named by Captain John C. Frémont in 1846 for its resemblance to Istanbul's Golden Horn, it's a vital west coast shipping channel and a famous landmark known for its dramatic fog and the iconic world-famous bridge that crosses it.

Golden Gate Overlook is a curved concrete plaza that hugs the edge of the coastal bluffs, mimicking the design of the former military fortifications and artillery platforms that surround it.

Wooden benches invite you to pause to enjoy a unique viewpoint — both towers of the Golden Gate Bridge perfectly lined up between historic cypress trees. Or look down the hill for a view of native flora and winding footpaths below.

Iconic Landmark: The strait is famous worldwide because it's spanned by the Golden Gate Bridge, a symbol of San Francisco and American engineering.

If visiting, go explore the bridge from all angles, and they are all spectacular. From here, you can look straight through the middle roadway and see all the traffic going across six lanes of Hwy-1.

Definitely worth the views and an easy walk up the hill from Crissy Field and Fort Point.

The closest parking area to Golden Gate Overlook is the Langdon Court parking lot off Lincoln Boulevard.
