Artist, poet, and novelist Barbara Chase-Riboud discusses her new memoir, "I Always Knew," with Deborah Willis, University Professor and Chair of the Department of Photography & Imaging at the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University (NYU) and Director of NYU’s Center for Black Visual Culture at the Institute of African American Affairs. "I Always Knew" is an intimate and vivid portrait of Chase-Riboud’s life told through the letters she wrote to her mother, Vivian Mae, between 1957 and 1991. In candid detail, Chase-Riboud tells her mother about her life in Europe, her work as an artist, her romances, and her journeys around the world.
