Virtual Wire:
Bind two(2) interfaces of the Firewall together through VWire Object. (Firewall is considered a “bump in the wire” )
Can be inserted into existing topology.
Used when no Switching and Routing is required.
Firewall can examine, traffic shape and block traffic.
No IP addresses are configured so no Routing, VPN or mgmt. traffic is supported.
Virtual wire interface is always connected to a Layer 2 or Layer 3 networking device.
By default allow all untagged traffic. Blocking or allowing traffic based on virtual LAN (VLAN) tags.
Supports APP ID, User-ID, NAT, Decryption and Content-ID.

Subinterfaces:
VirtualWire SubInterfaces will read and classify traffic according to an administrator-defined VLAN tag, IP Classifier, or both(An IP Classifier can be a specific address, range of addresses, or a subnet address.)
More granular security rules enforced when you need to manage traffic from multiple customer networks.
Logically splitting network traffic.
Separate traffic into zones.
