The 2016 Yamaha YZR-M1 is a Japanese racing motorcycle produced by Yamaha Motor Company specifically for the current MotoGP series. It is the successor of the 500 cc Yamaha YZR500 by the 2002 season and was originally developed with a 990 cc engine. Since then, the YZR-M1 has been continuously developed into several iterations through the 990cc, 800cc and 1000cc eras of Grand Prix Motorcycle Racing.

Seemingly, not much has changed to the Yamaha YZR-M1, though the bike now features 17″ wheels and Michelin tires. Indeed, most of the changes to the Yamaha YZR-M1 reside beneath the fairings, with perhaps the most important changes coming to the M1’s ECU, which is now a spec Magneti Marelli unit that runs the unified team software.
