POPCORN TAXI: Good evening, welcome to Popcorn Taxi. My name is Louise Rothwell. Tonight we will be screening a preview of Russian Ark [2002], which is the extraordinary 96-minute—one shot, no cuts—feature film by Aleksandr Sokurov. And we'll be talking to Mr. Sokurov in St. Petersburg by phone after the screening.

I'd like to thank Sony Australia for sponsoring tonight's program and their ongoing support, and Mark Spratt of Potential Films for facilitating tonight's session, and the live contact with Aleksandr Sokurov. Very shortly we will have the question and answer session and there will be two radio mics available, so if you want to ask a question please put up your hand and a mic will come around to you. It's really important tonight that you use the mic, uh, because we have Eugene Ulman, who will be translating for us, so he needs to hear your question so that he can translate with Aleksandr back to St. Petersburg.

So now I'd like to introduce Eugene Ulman whose going to do the translation tonight with Aleksandr. Eugene was born in St. Petersburg himself. He grew up in Sydney and he has been translating for 14 years. He is also a filmmaker.
