Kotoko Iwanaga was abducted by yokai (supernatural beings) at the age of 11. They asked her to become the "Goddess of Wisdom", a mediator between the spirit world and the human world. She accepted — but in return, she lost her right eye and left leg. Now 17, Kotoko solves supernatural problems by reasoning and negotiation — not by brute force.

She later meets Kurou Sakuragawa, a quiet college student with a dark past. Unknown to most, Kurou ate the flesh of two different yokai as a child in an experiment — giving him immortality and the ability to see future possibilities (like a supernatural precog). He is feared by yokai, who sense something monstrous in him.

Kotoko instantly falls for Kurou and recruits him to help her solve cases involving rogue spirits, vengeful ghosts, and urban legends that threaten both the human and yokai worlds.
