In 2017, the Cologne Male Voice Choir (Kölner Männer-Gesang-Verein, KMGV) celebrated its 175 year anniversary. It was founded in 1842 to raise money to continue building the Cologne Cathedral, a purpose shared with the Zentral-Dombau-Verein (ZDV) that was established at the same time. The anniversary concert on June 24, 2017 was a joint celebration of ZDV and KMGV.

Richard Wagner's music drama "Parsifal" was the German composer's last composition. It is loosely based on Wolfram von Eschenbach poem "Parzival", recounting the story of the Arthurian knight Parzival and his quest for the Holy Grail.
