Moments from top movies from the year 1955 (The Cold War)

1. The studio opposed the filming of this story in black and white, having decided that, for reasons of prestige, all films shot in CinemaScope must be in color. The film's director, has been forced to interrupt shooting at Warner Bros. and begin again using Eastman Color film.
2. This was the first film made using the Todd--AO widescreen process. It is a huge commercial success.
3. The story blends elements of thriller and horror, with the plot focusing on a woman and her husband's mistress who conspire to murder the man; after the crime is committed, however, his body disappears, and a number of strange occurrences ensue.
4. The footage of the dress billowing over a subway grate was shot twice: the first take was shot on location outside the Trans-Lux 52nd Street Theatre, then located at 586 Lexington Avenue in Manhattan, while the second take was on a sound stage. Both eventually made their way into the finished film, despite the often-held belief that the original on-location footage's sound had been rendered useless by the overexcited crowd present during filming in New York.
5. This is the first and only film to be directed by the famous actor. Pauline Kael, writing for the New Yorker in 1968, would call it "one of the most frightening movies ever made."
