𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗽𝗵𝗲𝗻 “𝗖𝗮𝘁” 𝗖𝗼𝗼𝗿𝗲 (April 6, 1956 – January 18, 2026) was a Jamaican guitarist, cellist, composer, and co-founder of Third World, widely recognized as one of the architects of reggae fusion. His musicianship bridged roots reggae with jazz harmony, African rhythm, classical discipline, and global musical language, helping bring Caribbean music to international stages without diluting its identity.

This performance features Songs of Freedom, reinterpreted live by Cat Coore at the Kula Ring Convening in Kingston, Jamaica. Rather than approaching the material as a tribute or replication, Coore reshaped the songs through acoustic texture, space, and restraint, allowing their message to resonate with clarity and intention.

Originally associated with the work of 𝗕𝗼𝗯 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗹𝗲𝘆 (February 6, 1945 – May 11, 1981), Songs of Freedom stands as a body of music rooted in liberation, dignity, and collective memory. Coore’s interpretation honors that foundation while extending it, reflecting a lifetime spent translating cultural truth through sound.
