King Creole is a 1958 American musical drama film directed by Michael Curtiz and based on Harold Robbins' 1952 novel A Stone for Danny Fisher. Produced by Hal B. Wallis, the film stars Elvis Presley, Carolyn Jones, Walter Matthau, Dolores Hart, Dean Jagger, Vic Morrow, Liliane Montevecchi, and Paul Stewart. It depicts a 19-year-old man (Elvis) who becomes embroiled in a criminal enterprise and has affairs with two women. Presley later stated that of all the characters he played throughout his acting career, his favorite was the role of Danny Fisher in King Creole. Filming for the film took place over a 60-day window between January and March 1958, when Presley was due to begin his military service. Location filming in New Orleans was repeatedly delayed due to the large fan base that attracted the stars, especially Elvis. The film was released by Paramount Pictures on July 2, 1958, and was a critical and commercial success. Many critics praised Elvis's performance, and the film peaked at number five on Variety magazine's box office chart. The soundtrack song "Hard Headed Woman" reached number one on the Billboard singles chart and number two on the R&B chart and was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). The soundtrack album also peaked at number two on the Billboard albums chart.

King Creole is the second soundtrack album by American singer and musician Elvis Presley. Released in mono by RCA Victor (LPM 1884) in September 1958, it was recorded over four days at Radio Recorders in Hollywood. The album features songs written and recorded specifically for the 1958 film of the same name starring Elvis, and peaked at number two on Billboard's Top Pop Albums chart. The album was previously released as a two-volume EP, "King Creole Vol. 1" and "King Creole Vol. 2." "King Creole Vol. 1" spent 30 weeks at number one on the EP album charts. It was released more than ten weeks before the film's release. It was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) on July 15, 1999.
