I recommend any 100% silicone, anything should hold as long as it's fully cured. So pick up anything in your budget. If you make a mess with the 100% silicone wipe it off with a paper towel before applying the tape. Putting the masking tape on just allows the rod minimal movement just make sure everything is lined up before putting the tape on. Remove the tape after the 100% silicon is fully cured.

You don't have to put the wire/ cable ties on the rod but it does help insure that the reel doesn't fall off. If you use the ties make sure they're in a comfortable position in your casting hand and also no sharp edges. Cutting your self on them isn't as fun as it sounds..
