Scrapping history: The loss of the World War II workhorse hero M/S Vita

Описание к видео Scrapping history: The loss of the World War II workhorse hero M/S Vita

The Shetland bus M/S Vita 1 has arrived at the breakers yard and by all acounts is going to be scrapped within few weeks. This boat served on both sides during WW2 and is soon going to be lost to history. I made an effort to document the ship, her history and her condition so that her story will still be known in the future.

There were some points I got wrong in the video:
The cost of restoring the ship is calculated to be around 1,8- 2,0 million pounds, not 1,0 like I claimed in the video.
The timber in the hull has been throughly analysed by experts and found to be in very poor condition, although it apeared to me to be in good shape; this is not the case
Vita was lengthened and modernized in 1957, and few parts of the original Shetland boat is still part of the vessle today. She was therefore NOT perserved as a Shetland bus, but as an example of a traditional norwegian 1950- fishing boat.
A lot of parts have been salvaged from the ship and will be put on an exibit on The Coastal Museum of South-Trøndelag.

I'm glad to get corrections on the things I was wrong about. One thing is to perserve history, but then we have to get it right.
To learn more about the ship and the reasons for its scrapping, check out the ships official website here (norwegian) : https://kystmuseet.no/avhending-av-vita
