President Obama is confident that lawmakers will come together and pass a comprehensive immigration reform bill, and thinks they will tackle the issue shortly after his inauguration in January.

If President Obama is able to get a divided congress to pass a bill granting a sensible, clear path to citizenship for millions of Latinos, he - and the bill's allies (presumably mostly democrats) - could cement their already solid standing with the nation's fastest growing voting bloc. The question yet to be answered for Obama's second term is how the newly elected Republicans are going to choose to govern. They control the House, but haven't shown a willingness since gaining power to compromise with the Democratically controlled Senate. So, the question is: are there going to be enough center-leaning republicans in the House willing to break away from the pack to help pass centrist/left bills that would otherwise go nowhere, whether it is immigration reform or extending the middle class tax cuts.
