Wonderfully atmospheric tracks in which Burnt Friedman morphs noise, dark beats, sometimes playful or glistening melodies and enervating pads. Burnt Friedman is also known for his collaboration with Jaki Liebezeit (Can), Some More Crime, Nonplace Urban Field and his Nonplace label.

In the border zone of West Germany in the 1980s, while new wave and punk dilettantes were making a fast start in the media and exploding into grotesque musical blooms, a zeitgeist was igniting in practice rooms and backyard recording studios in Kassel.

In the prepotent limbo of high school graduation and the start of university between 1982 and 1988, Bernd Friedmann didn't waste a day without a cassette recording in the practice room. On mostly borrowed equipment, he immortalized his overflowing enthusiasm on magnetic tape in every free minute, either alone or in various groups.

One of these groups was the Raab L. Toxh. trio, which existed for 2 years (Track: Negative Tape). All recordings were always made on the basis of no or minimal preparation, as spontaneous compositions. For overdubs in the seclusion of a studio, the technical requirements, the heating and the patience were lacking.
Around 1987/88, the 8-track tape recorder enabled the breakthrough from the practice room to the home studio and thus from session recording to semi-professional, halfway broadcast-ready audio production. The results of these pre-computer world sessions were distributed on small cassette editions (50 copies), mainly among friends.
Another formation of the students of liberal arts, B.Friedmann and Der Spyra, which existed for about 4 years, was Excursions & Visites (Track: Excursion Nr.8).

All the other tracks in this Elaste selection were the result of solo efforts, always accompanied by analog equipment controlled by rhythm machines, sometimes in combination with microphone and guitar. The fluctuating sound quality is due to the technical environment of the time.
