Nehru’s family lineage goes back to 17th century in Kashmir. The story starts 7 generations back. A gentleman from Nehru’s family called Raja Kaul. He was a Persian and Kashmiri Scholar and poet. Once a Mughal emperor “Farrukh Siyar” from Delhi visited Kashmir and there he was impressed by the talent of Raja Kaul and took him to Delhi and appointed as his courts poet. Raja Kaul got a house beside a canal which is called “Nehr” in Hindi. Later people started pronouncing Nehr as Nehru. Hence Raja Kaul as Raja Nehru (Raja who lives besides canal). Then after 3 generations, Laxminarayana Nehru who became the first vakil for east India company in Mughal’s court. His son Gangadar Nehru became chief of police in the last Mughal emperor Bahadur shah. After 1857 sepoy mutiny (Indian rebellion of 1857) written as “first war of independence “ a book by veer Savarkar (banned by British), Gangadar Nehru migrated as refugee to Agra. Gangadar Nehru sons Nandalal Nehru is diwan of ketri of Rajasthan in Raja Fateh sing court (diwan position is as powerful as today’s prime minister or chief minister) . And Gangadar Nehru’s younger son is Motilal Nehru, who is the first congress leader from Nehru family. Motilal practised law in Allahabad court and became a richest person in India and bought a house called Anand Bhawan. This house given to Mahatma Gandhi of INC (Indian national congress) to use it as party office. He also participated with Mahatma Gandhi for Indian independence. After the demise of Gangadar Nehru, his son Mr. Jawaharlal Nehru took the responsibilities and leadership of national congress party. Which was first found in 1885 by Annie Besant. After Nehru, his daughter Mrs Indira Gandhi lead the congress party and later her son Rajiv Gandhi. Now rajiv Gandhi’s children Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi leading the party with the help of their mother Sonia Gandhi
