Welcome to the 5th episode! After the untimely demise of Shantanu and Satyavati's sons Chitrangada and Vichitravirya, Satyavati urged Bhishma to call on her first son, Vyasa to help Ambika and Ambalika conceive the heir of Hastinapur. Vyasa, son of Satyavati and sage Parashar, was always immersed in yoga and meditation. Vyasa accepted Satyavati’s request but warned that if his appearance frightened Ambika or Ambalika, the results may not be promising. When Ambika saw Vyasa’s form, she closed her eyes in fear, leading to the birth of Dhritarashtra, who was born blind. Ambalika, upon seeing Vyasa’s complexion, was so terrified that she gave birth to the weak and pale Pandu. Disappointed with these results, Satyavati requested Vyasa to try again. This time, Ambika sent a maid in her place. The maid, unafraid of Vyasa, gave birth to Vidura—who was just and wise. Now, Hastinapur had its next generation of heirs, but Dhritarashtra’s blindness and Pandu’s frailty posed new challenges.
