Testing Gold With A Gold Testing Kit

Ever wanted to test your gold, silver or platinum for refining or just wanted to know what you've got on hand? This video explores using an acid-based kit (very inexpensive) to clarify your metal's composition. It's not difficult but, it can be confusing to read. Hopefully, this video will help!

I discuss options for testing gold, how to test with acids and how to be safe while testing. I also cover options for refining as well as questions to present to your refinery.

Wear a mask, preferably have ventilation - I could taste the chemicals when using them. Definitely wear gloves! A chemical apron is a good choice too! These acids: hydrochloric and nitric are VERY dangerous! Know the hazards before you begin!

Have plenty of paper towels on hand and a bowl that contains baking soda to neutralize the acids! Rinse well, after testing, in the sink and AFTER neutralizing in baking soda!

Also, I might be filming my prep and interactions with the refiner that I choose. I have over 150 ounces of silver to refine and thought you might like to witness my first journey into refining. In the past, I melted it down and made sheet metal but now, there's too much and I need something faster. This will probably be a three part series but, we will see! Depends on the experience!
