The Traverse City community continues to come together to help each other following a tragic, senseless attack.

On July 26, 2025, Bradford Gille is accused of viciously stabbing 11 people at random inside the Walmart in Traverse City, Michigan.

It happened at 4:43 p.m. on a Saturday afternoon as locals and tourists shopped.
The 42-year-old suspect, from Michigan, was stopped by two good Samaritans.

Matthew Kolakowski, a U.S. Marine veteran of Kent County, and his brother-in-law, Chris O'Brien, were on vacation in Traverse City when the stabbing happened. They jumped into action to stop Gille before he could cause any more harm.

"We saw a Walmart employee running up and down the back behind the checkouts (shouting) 'He's got a knife, he's got a knife,'" Kolakowski said. "A mass wave of just blood-curdling screams from the back the store that just came rushing forward..."
Law enforcement quickly arrived on the scene and took Gille into custody.

Gille has been charged with terrorism and 11 counts of attempted murder in connection to the stabbing attacks. He appeared before a judge Friday, Aug. 8, and was ordered to undergo mental health treatment.

He remains in the Grand Traverse County Jail on a $1 million bond.
