Si Santiago Apostol (St. James the Great) ay anak nina Zebedo at Salome. Siya ay alagad ni San Juan Bautista at naging apostol ni Jesus. Tinawag siya at ang kanyang kapatid na si Juan na Boanerges (mga anak ng kulog) ng Panginoon dahil sa kanilang kapusukan. Ang mangingisdang ito ay nagkapalad na maging saksi na kasama nina San Pedro at San Juan sa pagkabuhay ng anak ni Jiaro, sa pagbabagong-anyo ni Jesus (Transpigurasyon) at sa pagpawis ng dugo ng Panginoon sa halamanan ng Gethsemani. Siya ang unang namatay na martir sa mga apostol ng Panginoon noong taong 42, humigit-kumulang, nang siya'y ipahuli ni Herodes Agrippa sa Jerusalem.
