Back when Chinese imports were common, you could get a Norinco Type 54-1 as a kit with the original 7.62x25 barrel, but some kits also included 9mm Luger, and 38 Super barrels. I always wanted the trio of barrels, but missed my chance.

Luckily, I happened to stumble upon 2 extra 9mm barrels. I took one of the barrels to Roof Korean Custom Gunsmithing in Albuquerque and had them ream it out to 38 Super! I now have three chamberings for the same Tokarev! Why would I do that? Because I can!! Also, you can run the original 7.62x25 magazines with 38 Super while you have to find conversion magazines with an internal spacer for the 9mm Luger.

This was my first outing just to test it. It ran ok with the 38 Super. It locked back as you can see in the video, but it shows great potential! And even though these were light loads with cast bullets, you can really see the energy it carries to the plates. I'll work with this chambering and find a load I really like for it. While the Tokarev is a strong action, and I am confident that it's perfectly capable for the 38 Super, I'll keep mine on the medium or low end of the loading charts.

As you can see, however, the pistol ran perfectly in 7.62x25 and 9mm.
