LMS 10000 a look at the Bachmann 00 scale model

This is the stunning Bachmann 00 scale model of the LMS 10,000 diesel electric locomotive.
I purchased mine from Diesel Depot Model Railways at a bargain price.
Find them on Facebook.
It was not until this lovely model arrived that I looked into the history of the locomotive.
I was surprised to discover that this loco was introduced way back in 1947 by the LMS under the control of the designer H.G. Ivatt.
10,000 and 10.001 were the very first British main line diesel electric locomotives

These locos boasted 1,600 HP engines with a top speed of 93 mph and a respectable 41,400lb tractive effort!
The engines were English Electric 16SVT which later were refined and used in BR locos such as the class 40s and 50s.
Two locos were built originally outshoped in an attractive black livery with silver waist height band, roof and bogies together with LMS lettering.

The locos worked between London Euston and Carlisle route for driver training, later working out of London St Pancras and Euston on main line services to Manchester etc.
In November 1951 the LMS letters were removed and the standard lion and wheel logo was applied, then in 1956 both locos were outshopped in standards loco green as depicted by this model.

In March 1953 both locos were re allocated to the Southern region and worked the Waterloo to Bournemouth route the Bournemouth Belle and occasionally through to Exeter, but also visiting Brighton Works.

In 1955 they went back to the London Midland.

They were classified as 5P 5F originally but later fell into the type 3 power rating.

10,000 was sadly scrapped in 1968 as was 10,001.
Despite some efforts to preserve them.

What a real shame, these locos surely were every bit as important to our railway history as the Deltics.

The Bachmann loco runs silky smooth as you can see here and the detail is very fine indeed.
A added bonus is the cab lighting and white front marker lights and red tail light.

Excellent work Bachmann.

Check out this video of the real thing!
