A white spot on the cuticle or the hard part of the nail is very common especially in children. There are certain defects when the nail is growing. Most of the times it is normal, and when the nail grows, it recovers. When an ice cube or any substance falls on your nail, it usually doesn't leave a white spot, but causes bleeding under the nail, which cause a dark red or maroon spot. Later it turns into a blue spot and then it becomes a black spot. This is just like a bruise which occurs anywhere in your body. It is similar to what occurs on the skin following a bruise. It can be managed by any general doctor near you. Most of the white spots that remain are generally small scars under the nail which sometimes persist lifelong and sometimes cannot be treated, In some cases, these white spots indicate deficiency of vitamins. So the vitamin levels are checked especially in children, then you can supplement with those. Sometimes it can indicate you internal infection which is causing the deficiency. So if you treat the infection, the deficiency is corrected. Certain times, diseases of the skin, like psoriasis, can also affect the nail, causing white spots, So it should be shown to a doctor and the cause should be evaluated, whether it is a normal thing, due to deficiency or a disease.
