After winning the do-or-die 2nd T20I to stay alive in the three-match series, England and Australia will meet again in the series decider at Old Trafford in Manchester on Sunday (September 15).
With Australian players going down due to injuries, fast bowler Ben Dwarshuis has been added to the squad for the final T20I at Old Trafford. The left-arm pacer has come in as replacement for Xavier Bartlett, who has been ruled out of the series due to a side strain.
England bounced back well after being outplayed in the series opener to stay alive in the series. Their comeback was led by Liam Livingstone, who was magnificent with the bat for the hosts.
Bowling first, they restricted Australia under 200 on a flat pitch at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff. Travis Head and Matthew Short got off to a quick start, scoring 52 runs in 4.2 overs before Head lost his wicket.
Jake Fraser-McGurk, who was included in the XI in place of Mitchell Marsh, played an impactful knock. He scored a half-century off 30 balls before getting out to Liam Livingstone.
Josh Inglis continued his good run and made 42 off 26 balls. Marcus Stoinis once again failed with the bat, scoring 2 off 5. Tim David (1 off 3) also failed to get going. A late flourish by Aaron Hardie (20 off 9) and Cameron Green (13 off 8) saw them post 193/6 from 20 overs.
Liam Livingstone and Brydon Carse both picked up a couple of wickets each, while Sam Curran and Adil Rashid chipped in with one wicket apiece.
In reply, England lost their first wicket in the 4th over as Will Jacks fell for 12 off 10. Jordan Cox registered a silver duck. Livingstone and Phil Salt then added 45 runs for the third wicket before the latter lost his wicket.
Jacob Bethell, playing his second international game, joined hands with Livingstone as they added 90 runs for the fourth wicket to bring England back into the contest. Bethell made 44 off just 24 balls.
There was a mini-collapse in the lower middle order but Livingstone made sure that the hosts stay alive in the series. He made 87 off 47 and lost his wicket when the scores were level.
Adil Rashid hit the winning runs after Matthew Short picked up his first-ever five-wicket haul in T20Is.
