Users of electric bicycles, scooters, segways, and hoverboards have the same rights and must follow the same rules as traditional bicycle users. Wherever you are cruising, always check local codes. Local municipalities might adopt more restrictive regulations and speed limits for these e-devices.

Whatever you’re riding, always:
• Wear a helmet and don’t wear earphones or earbuds. Helmets are required by law for riders under 16 but are recommended for all to keep you safer in the event of a crash and minimize the risk of a brain injury.
• Be visible with white front lights and rear red lights. Wearing light-colored clothes can also help you to be seen better.
• Yield to pedestrians and be courteous to others.
• Give an audible warning signal when passing others.
• Slow down at corners and use extra caution before entering or crossing the road.
• Be predictable and ride at safe speeds and distances.
