The notice follows what the BJP described as wild and outrageous allegations made by Rahul Gandhi in the Lok Sabha. While the government initially considered a breach of privilege motion, it later shifted course, with the notice now seeking termination of Rahul Gandhi’s parliamentary membership.
If the motion is passed, Rahul Gandhi could lose his Lok Sabha membership again and face a lifetime ban from contesting elections. The Indian National Congress responded by saying it is not concerned by the notice and maintained that Rahul Gandhi raised key issues, including trade deals and farmers’ concerns, in Parliament.
