STORYLINE:
Pakistani leaders will meet with their Afghan counterparts in Turkey next week to discuss the escalating row over rival claims that militants frequently cross their common border, Pakistan's President announced on Sunday.
The Pakistani and Afghan governments have each accused the other of failing to effectively curb Taliban militia attacks on US and NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organisation) forces in Afghanistan.
Afghan and western military officials have repeatedly said that Taliban fighters are hiding in Pakistan and staging attacks against Afghan president Hmaid Karzai's US-backed government from across the border.
The Pashtunabad refugee camp, on the edge of the city of Quetta, in Pakistan's southwestern Baluchistan province, is at the heart of this debate.
The camp started off as a safe haven for the flood of Afghan refugees who fled their country in the wake of the 1979 Soviet invasion and the years of war that followed.
Now, residents of the camp are often accused of being involved in Taliban activities.
Pakistan's government accepts that refugee camps, such as Pashtunabad are being used as a base for Taliban fighting Afghan and international troops over the border, but says there is only so much it can do about the problem.
"Refugee camps in Baluchistan, they are the safe havens of all Taliban activities. Now we are crying (ourselves) hoarse since years, 'Take them away! We don't want them here!' Is anyone helping us? No sir, nobody is helping us," Pakistan president General Pervez Musharraf told a news conference in Rawalpindi in February.
Passers-by stop to look and pay their respects.
