Microsoft Excel Tutorial: Microsoft Excel - Sorting and Filtering by Icon | Excel Tips and Tricks.

Welcome to another episode of the MrExcel podcast, where we bring you the best tips and tricks for mastering Excel. In today's episode, we will be discussing how to sort or filter by icon, a useful feature that can help you quickly identify and organize data in your worksheets. This tip comes from Sam Radakovitz, a member of the Excel team, who is known for his visually appealing spreadsheets. So let's dive in and learn how to create worksheets that look as cool as Sam's.

First, we need to set the stage by using the Segoe UI font and the magic Excel green color, which can be found by going to More Colors and selecting Custom. This will give your worksheets a sleek and professional look. Now, let's move on to the main tip - sorting or filtering by icon. Sam has created a custom icon set to highlight the top 25% of prices in a dataset. To do this, select the cells you want to apply the icon set to, go to Home, Conditional Formatting, and choose a 4-level icon set. Make sure to use 4 levels for this to work effectively. Then, go to Manage Rules and edit the rule to highlight the top 25% of prices. This is a great way to quickly identify important data in your worksheet.

But that's not all, Sam also has a trick for highlighting the entire row based on a calculation. To do this, go to Conditional Formatting, create a New Rule, and use a formula to determine which cells to format. The formula should be written in a way that it can be copied throughout the worksheet. This is a great way to visually highlight data based on specific criteria. And to make it even easier to find this data, we can use the filter function. Simply turn on the filters and use the drop-down menu to filter by color or icon. You can also right-click to filter or sort by color or icon. However, there is currently no option to filter by multiple colors, but we have a solution for that.
