High Ankle Sprain Release - Motion Specific Release - In this video, Dr. Abelson demonstrates how to treat a high ankle sprain. A high ankle sprain is when you tear the high ankle ligaments that connect the tibia to the fibula. These ligaments are known as syndesmosis. High ankle sprains are often much more severe than common ankle sprains. Fortunately, most of these sprains can be treated with conservative care (non-operative). Initially, these injuries may require splinting and icing, and often crutches are needed to assist with ambulation.
