How to choose the best adventure bikes in 2025! We will also look at the cheapest dual sport motorbikes and lowest seat heights too. And what about the lowest seat height dual sport bikes? We covered this five years ago but there are a lot of new models out now. Our main criteria? Brand new models between 120kg and 175kg with a full fuel tank - the AJP PR7 is a good example. The lighest in this group: Suzuki V-Strom 250, Suzuki DR200S, Yamaha TW200, Kawasaki KLX230S, Yamaha XT250, and Kawasaki KLX300. And at least 200cc engine capacity. Why look at the cheapest lightweight adventure motorbikes with low seat heights? Keen on adventure riding in Australia? Check out our vids. They are generally much cheaper. We also want to find the lowest seat height adventure bikes. The light weight and lower horsepower is great for beginners. Older experienced riders appreciate the light weight in rough terrain or when they have to lift a fallen motorbike. We will include a few dual-sport and enduro motorbikes. A lot of riders buy these then add items such as bigger fuel tanks and windscreens. Welcome to Cross Training Adventure, we are into all things dual sport and adventure on the east coast of Australia. The lowest seat height dual sport bikes? Some adventure riders like to get into very rough terrain. The middle grouping in this category are the BMW G 310 GS, Kawasaki Versys 300, Honda CRF300L, Honda 300 Rally, Honda XR650L, and KTM 390 Adventure. They will prefer longer oil change intervals, wind protection, a cush drive hub, large fuel tank, strong subframe, a high output stator and good lights, comfortable seat, and ability to carry a passenger. This chart shows the broad spectrum of adventure riding and how various motorbikes fit within this spectrum. Enduro models make the lightest adventure bikes. They are also the lightest dual sport motorbikes by a long shot if you can register them for road riding in your country! With a full fuel tank these weigh between 112kg to 120kg. But there are issues for adventure riding. Small fuel tank. Small oil capacity. Hard seat. If you like dual sport riding in Australia then you might like our adventure riding vids. Check out our reviews of various adventure bikes and dual sport bikes. Higher maintenance engine. No cush drive hub. And of course they are expensive then you can easily spend thousands on the modifications. There are two models that are quite popular for adventure conversions. The heavier end of this group: Suzuki DR650, Suzuki DRZ400, Kove 450 Rally, Honda CRF450RL and KTM 690. It has a longer stroke engine than other enduro models which provides great power delivery for dual sport and adventure riding. Next? It's the dual sport Japanese models. Cheap. Incredibly reliable. Ridiculously good fuel economy. They will do highway speeds all day if you don't mind the high revs. Plenty of riders ride across the country and even around the world on these motorbikes. The main complaint is soft basic suspension that needs upgrading for aggressive riding, heavier riders, or carrying a lot of luggage. The lightest in this category? The Suzuki DR200S and Yamaha TW200 are ideal if you want the lowest seat height possible. Otherwise the 250 models have more power for more comfort on the highway although some extra weight of course. The Yamaha XT250 still has the low seat height and price tag but the extra 50cc. Ditto for the Kawasaki KLX230S. The Kawasaki KLX300 (also available as a 250 in Australia). It's more expensive and the seat is higher. A very similar model is the Honda CRF300L. Like the Kawasaki it's great value for money but it's ultra budget suspension lets it down compared to the KLX300. The Honda CRF450RL is actually an enduro model that has been detuned and made more road-friendly. Suzuki's faithful DRZ400. It was finally updated for 2025 with upside-down forks, LED headlight, fuel injection, traction control and ABS. The Honda CRF300L Rally, our first motorbike that actually looks like an adventure motorbike with the large fuel tank and fairing. The Honda XR650L! It only has about the same horsepower output as a DRZ400 but at much lower revs and with plenty of grunt. The Kove FSE450R Rally. The KTM 690 or Husqvarna 701.
