The Arrogance of the Sages in Darukavana:
Hidden within the Skanda Purana, this story begins in a dense forest called Darukavana. The sages performing yajnas (rituals) there grew arrogant, boasting that they were greater than God. To crush their arrogance, Parameshwara, accompanied by Goddess Parvati, went to that forest in the form of "Bhikshatana Murthy" (a beggar). Mesmerized by this illusory form, all the sages’ wives began to follow him. Consumed by rage, the sages unleashed venomous snakes, a large tiger, and fire upon Shiva.
