The official launch of mass production for the Triple 7 Dash 8 Freighter at Boeing’s widebody plant in Everett, Washington, marked a significant turning point. This was not merely a symbolic ceremony but also a clear statement of Boeing’s readiness to meet the growing demand of the global air cargo market. On July 21, around 100 key Boeing employees gathered inside the Triple 7X Composite Spar Fabrication Center to witness a historic moment: a robotic arm drilled the very first hole in the wing spar of the first Triple 7 Dash 8F. This moment carried not only technical meaning but also the culmination of years of research, development, and testing.

Speaking at the event, Ben Linder, Vice President and Chief Engineer of the Boeing Triple 7 and Triple 7 Dash 8F programs, emphasized the importance of this milestone. He explained that this was only the first hole out of a total of 938 that must be drilled into each wing spar—a process requiring absolute precision and advanced technology. Completing all 938 holes with Boeing’s automated robotic arm system, known as the Spar Assembly Robotic Cell (SPAC), takes as many as five full shifts, each lasting eight hours. This highlights both the complexity and scale of the production process, while also demonstrating Boeing’s commitment to optimizing manufacturing for maximum efficiency.
