On September 23, 2021 Karen Pratt & Dr. Laura Brunton of Western University joined the Calgary Adapted Hub powered by Jumpstart Research & Community Engagement Seminar Series with their talk "It Feels Good!" Benefits of Therapeutic Horseback Riding from the Children's Perspective.

About the Speakers:

Dr. Laura Brunton is an Assistant Professor in the School of Physical Therapy at Western University and is a registered Physiotherapist. Laura’s current research focus is exploring and understanding fatigue and pain experienced by individuals with cerebral palsy and the possible relationships with physical activity, sleep, pain and mental health. Laura has an interest in developing novel approaches to increase and support the self-management skills for youth with cerebral palsy.

Karen is a first year PhD student in Kinesiology at the University of Toronto in the ADAPT lab. Karen recently completed her Masters of Science in Health and Rehabilitation Sciences at Western University. Her research explored the effects of participation in therapeutic horseback riding for children with cerebral palsy from the perspective of the children themselves. Karen is a therapeutic riding instructor and mentor; she has been involved in the activity for over ten years. Karen is a registered kinesiologist and works in a pediatric rehabilitation setting in London, Ontario.
