A new book called The Boys: A Memoir of Hollywood and Family tells the story of their journey from childhood to adult success. It doesn’t omit any details, even the most personal ones. It focuses more on their lives and how show business affected them than their career itself. Much of it includes praise for their parents. They didn’t have a pushy stage mom or a demanding dad. They got tough love that encouraged them to be the best they could be but never pitted them against each other or made them feel like objects to be used. It also gives a detailed description of Clint’s battles with drug and alcohol addiction. Ron blames himself for not stepping in earlier, but the entire family eventually came together to help him get sober.

Ron also had personal struggles of his own. He was so stressed when he believed Fonzie would overtake his character on Happy Days that he started losing his hair. It also includes a few amusing anecdotes. Ron remembers the day his co-star on American Graffiti taught him to kiss. Clint remembers how working with a bear on Gentle Ben was hard on his nose. One of the main themes of the book and the boy’s life is family. Writing it has brought them closer and given them a chance to reminisce about how their parents helped them get to where they are today.
