The diamond knot is an ornamental knot. It is also known as the sailor’s knife lanyard knot, the marlin spike lanyard knot, the bosun’s whistle knot and the friendship knot.

Use/Application

It is often used as an ornamental part of a knife or tool lanyard. It can also be used to make paracord jewelery, as a decorative button or end knot on a paracord survival bracelet or key fob or zipper pull. If you pull the slack out and completely close the loop you can form a large button knot which can be used as a functional button. Sailors used to tie the knot with a large loop and use the loop as a necklace with the knot as an attractive pendant. Tied in larger rope it can be made into a dog tug toy.
