As 26th January is closing in, Delhi is prepped up to carry out the biggest parade showcasing India's military might and cultural diversity. The Republic Day parade is a part of the three days event celebrating the enforcement of the Constitution of India, post India's victory over the British rule. It begins at the Raisina Hill near Rashtrapati Bhawan(President's Palace) along the Rajpath and advances to India Gate. This year the Chief Guest for the event is the Prime Minister of Japan, Shinzo Abe.

On Sunday, prior to the parade's commencement, the Prime Minister of India will lay a floral wreath at the Amar Jawan Jyoti, a memorial for the war heroes at India Gate followed by two minutes of silence as a token of respect.

The Republic Day celebrations of India have rightly become world famous as one of the greatest shows on earth drawing thousands of eager sight-seers from all over the country and many parts of the world as well. No other country can draw on such a wealth of tribal traditions and cultures, with so many regional forms of dances and dress. And, no other country in the world can parade so many ethnically different people in splendid uniforms, all united in their proven loyalty to the Government elected by the people and in their proud traditions and legendary gallantry.

Nine to twelve different regiments of the Indian Army in addition to the Navy, and Air Force with their bands march past in all their finery and official decorations.

Every part of the country is represented in the parade. There are state wise cultural shows. Comprising over 25 marching and mounted contingents, various military vehicles, 20 military bands, 30 cultural tableaux and 30 aircraft in addition to cultural performers and 1200 schoolchildren, India's Republic Day Parade in New Delhi is the most spectacular regular parade in the world.
