We are high on the slopes of Ambae Volcano in Vanuatu, one of the most active and rugged islands in the South Pacific. There are no tracks here, no established campsites, and no easy way up. For three grueling days, we had to "bush bash" our way through near-impenetrable tropical jungle using only bush knives (machetes).

Every meter of progress is earned. We are clearing a small flat spot just to pitch our tents on the steep, muddy volcanic incline. Our goal: the summit and the massive erupting crater. In a landscape that changes with every eruption and landslide, we are navigating purely by instinct and grit. This is raw, unfiltered exploration at the edge of the world.
