Lawrence Lek is an acclaimed UK-based artist, musician and filmmaker whose trilogy of films - AIDOL 爱道 + Geomancer 风水师 + Sinofuturism (1839-2046 AD) - approach digital pasts, presents and futures through the medium of video games. He joined programmer Conor Bateman for a post-film conversation after a retrospective screening of his work, which played as part of Static Vision's online edition of Hyperlinks on July 12, 2020.

The latest in the trilogy, AIDOL, is a unique, digital musical that’s Perfect Blue by way of machinima. Set in a smoke-and-mirrors realm of fantastical architecture, sentient drones and snow-deluged jungles, AIDOL revolves around the long and complex struggle between humanity and Artificial Intelligence, telling the story of a fading superstar, Diva, who enlists an aspiring AI songwriter to mount a comeback performance at the 2065 eSports Olympic finale.
