In today's unemployment update I'll share the latest details of what's in the new stimulus bill for people receiving unemployment benefits. The stimulus bill passed! The new stimulus bill passed the house and senate and is on it's way to be signed into law by the president! If the IRS has your direct deposit information on file we may get our $600 stimulus checks by December 31st! You can get a stimulus check even if you are on unemployment and you can get both the extra $300 weekly unemployment boost and the $600 stimulus check. We will not owe taxes on $600 stimulus check.
There is a PUA extension! They have added 11 additional weeks of PUA unemployment benefits from 12/27 - 3/14 and can now get up to 50 weeks of PUA benefits. If you have not used all 50 weeks of PUA benefits you can continue to draw down your claim balance through April 5th. They have added 11 additional weeks to the PEUC extension that will start on 12/27 and end on 3/14 for a total of 24 weeks. If you have not used all 24 weeks of your PEUC extension by 3/14 you can continue to draw down your claim balance through April 5th.
All unemployment claims are eligible for the extra $300 weekly unemployment boost which also lasts 11 weeks starting December 27th and ending March 14th. It doesn't matter if you have a regular UI claim, PUA unemployment claim or are on an unemployment extension like PEUC, FED-ED or EB, you will get the $300 extra as long as you are eligible to receive something from unemployment. There is no minimum weekly benefit amount required to qualify for the extra $300 in unemployment like there was to get the $300 LWA money. The $300 will not be retroactive.
States will have the ability to waive overpayments if the unemployment overpayment was caused by no fault of your own and would cause a financial hardship to repay it.
Even though the extension and extra $300 starts 12/27, there may be delays in getting unemployment payments when a new stimulus bill has passes. Most likely we could see delays of payments between 3 - 7 weeks (meaning we could go up to 7 weeks with no payments) because our unemployment offices like the CA EDD don't just need to update the end date of the PUA unemployment program, they also need to recalculate everyone's claim balance and since our weekly benefit amounts are all different this may take some time. It may also be tricky switching someone who is currently on FED-ED or EB back to PEUC.
The eviction ban has been extended to January 31st, 2021 and there will be rental assistance you can apply for.
