Garfield, the iconic lasagna-loving cat created by Jim Davis, stars in his own handheld LCD game developed and released by Konami in 1991. In this single-player platformer, players control Garfield as he navigates a nighttime scene atop a wooden fence, aiming to rescue Odie, who is stranded on the moon above. The gameplay involves guiding the cat to avoid various hazards while collecting lasagna to fill his 'Super Jump' meter. Once the meter is full, the cat can execute a super jump to reach and rescue Odie, advancing to the next level.

As Garfield navigates the game, he must dodge objects thrown by presumably annoyed neighbors, including old boots, pies, trashcan lids, tomatoes, and flowerpots. Contact with these hazards reduces the lasagna lover's health, represented by a six-point health bar. The player starts with three lives, and losing all health results in the loss of one. If all lives are depleted, you obviously get a game over.

Jon Arbuckle occasionally appears during gameplay, offering Garfield his favorite lasagna, which fills the 'Super Jump' meter. Additionally, Odie may drop chicken drumsticks that restore the orange furball’s health points when collected. After rescuing Odie, players advance to higher levels with increased difficulty, featuring faster and more frequent hazards. There are six levels overall, with the last two being a bit hectic and featuring Odie and the moon constantly disappearing and reappearing, requiring you to time the super jump flawlessly. It's nothing impossible with practice, but it can become frustrating, especially if you arrive short on lives.

Despite the game being relatively short, I appreciate it more than other handheld titles because it has an end (though sadly, not an actual ending). You don’t have to play countless levels before reaching the hardest difficulty. Garfield may be short, but it provides a certain degree of satisfaction once completed.
