Join me as I take you on a journey back to 17th Century Chester. The city is famous for its ancient walls that surround the city center. These walls were built by the Romans in the 1st century CE and have been well-preserved over the centuries. However during the English Civil War in the 17th century, the walls of Chester were damaged due to the conflict. The Parliamentary forces bombarded the city, causing significant destruction, and the walls were left in disrepair for many years. Eventually, repairs were made, and the walls were restored to their former glory, but the damage caused by the civil war is still visible today.

One of the most noticeable areas where the walls were damaged is in the Roman Garden, a public park located within the walls of Chester. Here, visitors can see sections of the wall that have been rebuilt and repaired, along with parts that have been left as ruins, showing the scars of the conflict. Despite the damage caused by the civil war, the walls of Chester remain an important part of the city's history and are a popular tourist attraction.
