UNEXPECTED TEACHER | The Word Exposed with Cardinal Tagle (August 20, 2023) with sign language

We are on the 20th Sunday in Ordinary Time. In today's Gospel, we would hear the great faith of the Canaanite woman who pleaded with Jesus to have pity on her whose daughter was tormented by a demon.

What made her faith great? Her persistence. Despite Jesus's mean and demeaning response, her persistence declared her faith in God's abundant mercy. Even the dogs eat the scraps that fall from the table of their masters. She said “Everyone has a share in God's love, even those considered dogs by society.”

Jesus listened to her. She was an unexpected teacher of faith and for this the Lord granted her wish. When things don't go our way, do we persist in faith? Are we willing to learn from the little ones? Let the Canaanite mother teach us.
