The art of the silhouette dates to the 18th century, when artists captured likenesses by cutting simple shadow portraits. In this video, we’ll show you how to bring that tradition into the present with a hands-on twist. By transferring printed portraits onto polymer clay, students can create bold, layered keepsake silhouettes of their own!
This fun, tactile project blends historical and modern art techniques to introduce key concepts like positive/negative space, texture, and composition. Your students will love how, with just a little water and pressure, their prints transfer to the clay in a process that feels almost magical.
