This video I had to do for a project to showcase how we perform a transabdomjnal ultrasound to my school’s protocol! So please do not criticize the way or order this exam is in. Every sonographer scans differently.

Many protocols are different so keep that in mind. This protocol may not be the same as other as far as the order however all of these images are required in this exam.

The purpose to perform a TA ultrasound may be to assess the uterus for any anomalies or pathologies such as fibroids or growths. Also pregnancy can be seen as well in a TA ultrasound. You can also use this to evaluate the ovaries for many reasons such as for cyst or ovulation by looking at follicles, etc.

This will give you an idea on what goes in a regular exam room and what images you’d be taking. This exam also goes hand in hand with an exam called Transvaginal exam which may come secondary to a Transabdominal exam. This can give a more clear view when some things are difficult to see on top.
