After the success of the La Boum films, Gaumont studios wanted to bring the protagonists back together again: Claude Pinoteau and Sophie Marceau. Although the latter initially agreed, she eventually withdrew in favour of Andrzej Zulawski's L'Amour braque (which she later married).
No matter ! Pinoteau teamed up with screenwriter Jean-Loup Dabadie to make LA 7è CIBLE in 1984.The story begins on a stormy evening. Bastien Grimaldy (Lino Ventura) is attacked by three young thugs who beat him up but don't steal anything. The assault is followed by threats: anonymous phone calls, a car accident, blackmail, a billion-dollar ransom demand... To escape this nightmare, Bastien files a complaint, but the police are suspicious of him. So he sets off alone to investigate and track down the blackmailer...
After scoring the two parts of the romantic comedy La Boum, Vladimir Cosma reunites with Claude Pinoteau for a third time in this thriller, with a superb orchestral score. Of course, the most striking feature of this score is the famous Berlin Concerto for violin and orchestra, performed by violin soloist Ivry Gitlis.
