Himachal Pradesh is North West Himalayan state which covers 10.54% area of it. Himachal is divided into shivaliks , lesser Himalayas, greater Himalayas and trans Himalayan zone.

Shivaliks are also known as outer Himalayas and manak parvat which constitutes 30%area of total geographical area of himachal Pradesh. Dun vallies, citrus fruits and choes are characteristic features of shivaliks.
Lesser Himalayas are known as lower Himalayas and it constitutes 10%area of total geographical area of Himachal. This zone recieves highest rainfall in Himachal Pradesh. Dhauladhar and pir panjal are main ranges of this zone .
Greater Himalayas are known as high hill zone and it covers 25%area of Himachal .
Trans Himalayas are called inner Himalayas and it constitutes 35%area of Himachal . This zone recieves minimum rainfall in Himachal .. zaskar range form international boundary with Tibbet..
